Loudoun Credit Union Celebrates Workforce Development Month

September is Workforce Development Month, and at Loudoun Credit Union, we know that building a strong workforce starts with recognizing the people who make our schools and community stronger every day.

Earlier this month, LCU Chief Experience Officer Amanda Ivicic joined our partners at the Loudoun Education Foundation and Loudoun County Public Schools at Banneker Elementary School to celebrate Tim Bowers, Project Manager for the Department of Support Services and this month’s recipient of the SHINE Award.

Nominated by Banneker Principal Robert Carter, Bowers was recognized for his work keeping the Banneker community informed and excited about the school’s ongoing renovation and addition.

The project will add 61,000 square feet to the historic school, including five new classrooms and additional resource spaces. Through his responsiveness and communication, Bowers has helped students, families and staff feel connected to the future of their school.

That future is especially meaningful at Banneker. The school opened in 1948 to serve African American students from Middleburg, St. Louis and Mountville and was named for Benjamin Banneker.

When Loudoun schools were integrated in 1968, members of the St. Louis community successfully advocated to preserve the Banneker name.

Today, Banneker holds a special place in Loudoun history as the county’s only remaining historically African American school still operating as an elementary school.

That connection between Loudoun’s schools and its community is also deeply rooted in our own history. Nearly 50 years ago, LCPS educators were among Loudoun Credit Union’s founding members.

Educators have continued to serve in leadership roles throughout our history, and LCPS remains the largest employer of LCU members today.

It’s why our partnerships with Loudoun County Public Schools and the Loudoun Education Foundation mean so much to us: their work to support educators, students and the future of Loudoun is closely connected to our own mission of helping the people who serve this community thrive.

The SHINE Award — Spotlighting Heroes in Education — is a partnership between LEF and LCPS recognizing employees who go above and beyond for students and the community.
