Loudoun Credit Union Celebrates Historic Move and Community Partners at Annual Meeting

LEESBURG, Va. – May 20, 2025 – Loudoun Credit Union hosted its Annual Meeting on Tuesday, May 20, at The Depot in historic downtown Leesburg. The 47th annual gathering welcomed members, elected officials, community leaders, and partners to celebrate a year of strategic milestones a future rooted firmly in service and local investment.

While annual meetings are required for member-governed credit unions, this year’s event felt more like a celebration. Catered by locally owned businesses Fleur De Cuisine and Fifty Leven Wine, the evening featured vibrant conversation, heartfelt recognitions, and previews of what’s next, including the move to the Credit Union’s new home at 6 West Market Street, just a short walk from the event venue.

“This past year, Loudoun Credit Union surpassed $58 million in assets, a 9% increase, and now serves more than 5,500 members,” said CEO Michael Falvey. “We remain well-capitalized and well-positioned to invest in member experience, staff development and community partnerships. And we do this while maintaining the personal service that defines us.”

Falvey also announced that new business financial services will be launching later this year.

“We’re proud to expand beyond personal financial tools this year, to better serve the small business community,” he said. “We’re a small business too, and we know what it takes to succeed. Local entrepreneurs and small businesses will be able to work with Loudoun Credit Union for the accounts, loans, credit, and wraparound support from people who understand this community.”

Board of Directors Chair Cindy Mester shared reflections on the Credit Union’s founding mission and its long-standing commitment to the County and Town.

“Returning to the heart of Leesburg is more than a change of address. It is a statement of purpose,” she said. “Our new space at 6 West Market Street spans three historic buildings undergoing amazing restoration. It will feature modern conveniences but also honor the heritage and resilience of this incredible town.

The Credit Union is embarking on a full revitalization of the historic structures at 6 West Market Street, which date from the 1880s and have been closed since a fire in 2021.

Construction is expected to begin in the coming weeks. The new facility will also serve as a symbolic cornerstone for Loudoun Credit Union’s 50th anniversary, which will be celebrated in 2027.

“We even designed the Board Room with its own street entrance so it can be shared after hours by nonprofit and community groups,” Mester shared. “This will be more than a location—it will be a hub for Loudoun County.”

Leesburg Mayor Kelly Burk attended and offered her enthusiastic support during the meeting, praising the Credit Union’s investment in downtown.

“Loudoun Credit Union has always chosen Leesburg as its location, never leaving town limits since its founding almost a half century ago in September 1977,” said Mayor Burk. “That commitment to our great Town means so much to me and my fellow Town Council members.”

Mayor Burk also applauded its upcoming partnership with Loudoun County Public Schools and the Loudoun Education Foundation.

“As a retired teacher, I want to commend you on the investment you are making in our local schools,” she added. “Investing in our students today could bring you your next generation of employees down the road.”

Speakers during the evening also included Michael O’Connor, landlord and redevelopment partner, and Kari Murphy, Director of Development for the Loudoun Education Foundation. Both praised Loudoun Credit Union’s leadership, with Murphy hinting at a deeper collaboration to be formally announced this summer to support students entering the skilled trades.

The meeting also featured major moments of recognition. Longtime employees Cathy Nelson (20 years) and Kathleen Broadhurst (13 years), who is retiring as Director of Finance, were honored for their service.

Two new Board members—Jack Sandusky and Sue Depoy—were formally voted in and welcomed, while outgoing Board members Brian Tinsman and Kendra Dionne were thanked for their service and leadership.
